FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are we on social media?

Yes! We're on FacebookInstagramYouTube, and LinkedIn. Members will also be added to our official WhatsApp group for real-time updates.

Where and when do we play?

We typically practice multiple times throughout the week at any stadium where we can grab a nice piece of turn (one of our popular locations is Serangoon Stadium). On Saturdays, we will either play in an ActiveSG field or a private field, depending on whether or not we are in-season. We strongly advise you to join SFFA on the Reclub app (which we use for scheduling all of our events) and our SFFA Announcements Whatsapp group for real-time updates, as we do have bye weeks and members-only events scheduled throughout the year.

Can females play with us?

Yes! Females are invited to all of our regularly scheduled practices, scrimmages, and league games. Additionally, we do have an SFFA Female team that practices weekly and participates in tournaments around the region. Get in touch with us on Instagram for more information!

What style of flag football do we play?

We play two formats of flag football:

  1. 8v8 with physical contact for blocking and line-play. The 8v8 rule book is available here.

  2. 5v5 with no contact. We follow IFAF 5v5 rules.

How can I start playing?

Everyone is welcome to join - there are no age, gender or experience restrictions! We recommend that you start by getting in touch with Ethan (+65 9650 7729) and/or by posting a comment on our Facebook Page indicating your interest to join.

What should I bring?

Mandatory items to bring:

  • Cleats (Football or Soccer cleats should suffice)

  • Lots of water (1.5L should be sufficient)

  • A colored shirt (either black AND white shirts during scrimmage play or the color of your team during Season play.)

Recommended items to bring:

  • Sun screen

  • Pocketless shorts

  • Your own flags

Is it free to play?

We are in Season roughly 30 weeks per year. Generally, only SFFA Player Members are eligible to participate in SFFA Seasons (although we do have guest passes available for one-off purchase).

In between each league, we have free casual scrimmages and fun, themed matches (such as USA vs. The World and Veterans vs. Newbies).

How do Seasons work?

We run 3 to 4 Seasons per year, with each ranging from 8 to 10 weeks in duration. Generally, only SFFA Player Members are eligible to participate in SFFA Seasons.

In each Season, we offer two types of leagues - Varsity and JV.

Can I play in the Varsity league, the JV league, or both?

To participate in the Varsity League, you must be selected by a captain of a Varsity team either in our league draft (at the start of the Season) or during waiver wire pickups (held periodically throughout the Season). If you are not selected for a Varsity team, you will be automatically eligible to join a JV team.

Varsity players will only be allowed to join a JV league if extra players are needed (to be decided on a weekly basis). JV players can be promoted to a Varsity team throughout the Season (also to be decided on a weekly basis).

How are teams selected each Season?

Before each season, 4 teams are established with each having a Captain and Co-Captain. The captains meet and conduct a draft whereby they select players on their team. Each team tends to have roughly 20. Anyone who is not selected for the Varsity League automatically goes to the JV League.

Players who join during the Season will be automatically placed in the JV League, and are eligible for promotion to the Varsity League during waiver wire pickups (held periodically throughout the Season).

I registered for a Season, do I have to play in every game?

No. Attendance is completed up-to-you; there is no minimum commitment required.

Does SFFA participate in International Tournaments?

Yes. Almost every year, we participate in 1-3 international tournaments around Asia. SFFA Player Members will be given priority if limited slots are available to join an international tournament.

I'm completely new to flag football. How can I learn the game?

We are launching a robust talent development program in 2022. The program will include skill workshops, mentorship, training videos, and elgibility to play in our JV League.
